      • Mar 2008 - Feb 2015

In my position as Group Leader Nutrition at LSI, I was responsible for all dietary formulations for cobia and Florida pompano, from brood stock through to market sized fish, grown under low salinity conditions in recirculating aquaculture systems. I was responsible for the development and commercial implementation of the first commercial fish meal-free aquafeed designed for marine carnivorous fish--cobia and Florida pompano. Along with the Chief Scientific Officer, H. William Harris, MD, Ph.D, I made novel nutritional discoveries in marine fish by linking physiology and nutrition, which I continue to utilize to the present day in all of my commercial feed formulations.

Served as an Associate Professor of Aquaculture Nutrition in the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, where my research program focused upon quantitative nutritional requirements for emerging aquaculture species, development of species-specific diets for candidate species, alternative protein and lipid sources for aquafeed incorporation, organic nutritional research, interactions between nutrition and immune function and final product quality. During my time at Virginia Tech, I authored over 45 peer-reviewed papers in the scientific literature and I served as chief aquafeed formulator for Southern States Cooperative from 2001 through 2004. I have over 28 years of nutritional and biochemical experience with warm water marine fish and shrimp, emphasizing high-density, recirculating aquaculture systems.
