Significant accomplishments: • Initiated the move of all application development computing resources from on-premise data center to the Amazon AWS cloud. This initiative was undertaken due to the full rearchitecture and redeployment of our internal mission-critical business applications with no existing on-premise resources capable of handling the new application roll-out. Worked closely with the CIO to plan, review, architect, and lead building the AWS deployment. Use of AWS as our new all-in compute platform has saved the company an estimated $2.5M annually. The use of AWS also reduced the overall project scheduled by an estimated nine-months, leading to savings of another estimated $750K. • As part of the AWS cloud initiative, established a new application load testing environment, allowing the new application suite to be rolled out with no significant performance issues due to compute capacity. • As part of the AWS cloud initiative, oversaw the standardization of all development, integration, and quality testing compute environments. This led to improvement of project delivery efficiency of an estimated 200% due to consistent deployment layouts and the ability to automate a significant portion of the deployment mechanisms. Scope of authority was elevated to include ownership of application hardware systems. New responsibilities included hardware specification, purchase, and installation, along with operating system management and support. Worked closely with the infrastructure team to define co-location hosting and network requirements. Also assumed management of DBA team, which grew to a size of three during this period. Oversight of hardware and operational support still entailed responsibilities outlined below under Director of Production Support description. Reported to the CIO. Significant accomplishments:• Spearheaded the move of the entire application suite from hardware owned and operated by a managed hosting facility, to company owned and managed hardware at a co-location facility. This move including the installation and management of hardware to run the entire application and database. The move was conducted with minimum application downtime and no data loss, saving the company an estimated $1M annually.• Leading a team of four support analysts, continuously met all system up-time and application delivery SLAs, preventing outages that were estimated to cost the company a total of $1M annually.• Initiated and oversaw deployment of an open-source disk-less desktop system to about 500 user workstations, allowing the company to delay the replacement of aging hardware, and allowing the company to terminate significant desktop licensing. The initial savings was estimated to be $750k, and the continued ongoing annual savings was estimated at about $250k. Show less

Assumed responsibility for building an application support team for the company, which had not existed to this point. Grew the team from one to four support analysts. Responsibilities included creation and implementation of new operational processes, established an after-hours on-call rotation, scheduling and deployment of software releases, generation of work breakouts for all support analysts, management of development and test environments, stabilization of production systems, as well as day to day issue management. Also worked closely with development and QA teams in a precursor to DevOps, assisting in high-level application design to increase software maintainability. ACCORD was based on a Java Swing front-end, Java/J2EE middleware (WebLogic and JBoss) and an Oracle server database back end. I developed scores of applications for various clients in the engineering and financial industries, developed and delivered SQL-based classroom training, and performed many performance tuning engagements, I participated in all levels of the SDLC, including requirements gathering, system architecture, design, development, testing, delivery, installation, and support. I was a major participant in growing the company from a very small start-up of three individuals into $10M annual revenue. I remained with the company when it was purchased first by The UniLink Group and subsequently BuildNet. With both new companies I remained as a principal software engineer. Show less
