Under the supervision of an RN, I am able to perform a number of approved nursing skills including, but not limited to: medication administration; Foley catheter insertion and removal; intravenous catheter insertion and removal; nasogastric insertion and removal; blood glucose monitoring; and blood draws. I also organize care plans for up to two patients each clinical day utilizing the nursing process. I have developed both critical thinking skills within the classroom and clinical setting. For instance, I utilize alternative methods of pain control, such as repositioning, cold and heat application, and distraction while awaiting the oversight of an RN to treat pain with pharmacological interventions. I have experience in many local clinical settings including Abilene Regional Medical Center, Hendrick Medical Center, and a number of locations within the Abilene community.
