Type of Firm: SAAB serves the global market with world-leading products, services and solutions from military defence to civil security. The Business Area Support and Services offers Integrated Support Solutions, Maintenance, Logistics and Technical Support, Field Facilities and Regional Aircraft Support. Responsibilities: I was responsible for overseeing the execution of a 5 year maintenance and support contract that consists of the maintenance of the Electronic Warfare systems for the South African Navy frigates and submarines as well as a portion of the communications systems for the frigates, submarines and land based installations. My responsibilities included the management and mentoring of a team of nine engineers and administrative staff, monthly budgeting and reporting, project management, quarterly reporting to ARMSCOR, preparation of motivations for out of budget expenditure and ad hoc input on specialist research and development projects. In 2014, a position became available to work on this same contract as a Principal Technician. Although I have a solid base of experience in management and team leadership, engineering is and always has been my first love. For this reason, I requested a rather unconventional move and I have fulfilled this role for a number of years. I still serve a supporting role to the new Contract Execution Manager and I still enjoy training and mentoring younger engineers. Show less
