Steve worked on the Isle of Man Government XP & Server 2003 tech refresh project. Steve was challanged with a number of different application and database issues, for which he earned a well respected reputation for producing fast and effective high quality developments every time. It was a pleasure working with Steve and I would 100% recommend his work (and great sense of humour!) to anyone.

IFGL is the parent group for RL360, RL360 Services and Arden International. IFGL have recently purchased Friends Provident International from Aviva doubling the number of policies under administration. My role is to oversee the integration from an Architectural perspective introducing Architectural Governance, an Architectural Framework (based loosely on TOGAF) in addition to ensuring that solutions and designs align with the Business Strategies and goals. Deliverables have included: * The design of an Enterprise Data Warehouse comprising Operational and Data Migration ETL services, a temporal Transaction Data Store for the storage of transactional level records changing over time and a rules based Financial Rules Engine. * Implementation of a Design Authority to ensure Architectural and Solution governance. * Involvement at all levels in the design and solutioning process. * Liaising with third-parties to ensure solution alignment. * RFP involvement for the provision of a new Digital Engagement solution

Standard Bank are a financial services group offering investment, trust, personal and corporate banking services globally. Standard Bank is Africa’s largest lender by assets. I was brought in by the COO to establish a Data Architecture for the Wealth International part of the business in order to assist with attaining GDPR compliance and to ensure group strategy (e.g. SalesForce implementation) takes into account the offshore side of the business. Working with group in South Africa I was able to define and promote new standards such as Data Classification, Data Definition and Data Lineage which could then underpin, drive and validate Business Strategy (TOM) and Business change. As well as defining these standards I was responsible for establishing a Data Dictionary that was populated with field level attributes defined by a central Business Glossary of Terms that was capable of documenting the lineage (data flows) of all data across the entire Standard Bank estate from Application form through data entry (e.g. SAP, Navision, MS Dynamics, etc) into the Data Warehouse and reporting.

Pacific Life Re are a London based re-insurance company growing globally by establishing a presence in new markets and through acquisition. Part of this growth includes the implementation of a new SAP/MSG Re-insurance solution and standardisation of processes. I was brought in to implement a Data Governance Framework and to help establish a Centre of Excellence which also encompassed top level organisational re-structuring. Setting the ground-work for the Data Governance Framework involved the documentation of an overall Solution Architecture, creation of a Data Glossary, capturing metadata, documenting the Data Lineage and all data transformations. ETL mappings for data migration and BAU data loads were struggling to be produced as the target interface was poorly defined so I extended the Data Dictionary to cover the detailed specification of the SAP/MSG interface as well as documenting and putting controls around Master Data. The SDLC process being followed was poor, documentation was not being signed off and changes not properly managed – so I instigated a formal Change Management process, advised on how to improve the standard of documentation and introduced Agile processes where required. I also consulted with and advised the CFO on the re-structuring of the top three layers of the global organisation which included the addition of a Business Change capability, an Architectural capability and the establishment of roles and responsibilities for improving Data Quality and Data Management.

    • Solutions Architect, Data Lead - Financial Systems Replacement (FSR)
      • Jul 2015 - Oct 2016

This is a £40M+ Financial Systems Replacement project to replace the General Ledger (and sub ledgers), Expenses, Consolidation, Planning, Tax planning and reconciliation tools with a Solvency II compliant solution based on COTS products (predominantly Oracle) and a custom Reporting Data Store. The target solution will run on multiple environments (on-premise, private cloud, public cloud and mobile devices) uses SOA for integration and orchestration and makes use of Single-Sign-On across all environments. I was engaged by Royal London to add oversight to the work being carried out by the Delivery Partner, KPMG Management Consulting. Predominantly focused on the analysis and design phases but also covering build, test, deployment and service transition my role has been to ensure that the solution is sustainable, secure, conforms to industry best practice and satisfies the requirements of the project sponsor (CFO), key stakeholders and Group Technology & Change. My key areas of focus have been on contributing to and influencing the designs, assessing options (requirements, suitability, cost, sustainability, non-functional etc) and part of the technical design authority. In addition, as lead of the Integration and Orchestration workstream I have been defining standards and patterns, reviewing integration designs (mainly SOA), responsible for the SSO solution and managing the end-to-end process/data flows.
