Patents: Antenna Positioner Design - United States Patent 7298342 Abstract: A three-axis antenna positioner has an X-Y over azimuth configuration, and includes an azimuth drive assembly, an X-axis drive assembly, and a Y-axis drive assembly. Each drive assembly is independently operable. The azimuth drive assembly imparts 540° azimuthal rotational motion to an antenna about an azimuth axis. The X-axis drive assembly rotates the antenna about a horizontal X-axis at elevation angles between −90° and +90°. The Y-axis drive assembly rotates the antenna about a Y-axis at elevation complement angles between −2° and +105°. The azimuth axis, the X-axis, and the Y-axis all intersect at a common intersection point, and are mutually orthogonal. A controller operates each drive assembly so as to minimize antenna tracking velocity and acceleration. Each drive assembly may include dual drives, and may be operated in a bias drive mode to substantially eliminate backlash. 3D Solid Modeling using PROE (currently using wildfire 4.0) Linear and Non-linear Finite Element Analysis using ALGOR, Mechanica Kinematics and Dynamic FE simulation analysis using ALGOR VE, MSC Virtual Nastran Career Accomplishments (brief): - Designed, developed and analyzed, mobile and fixed 2.0 thru 47-foot diameter single/dual/tri-frequency antenna Reflectors and Pedestals. Most recent RF project was to develop a 3-axis bias drive 4.3m Ka-band and 6.1 m X-band antenna systems. Designed, assembled and tested numerous two DOF systems for the precision optics industry. Many of my designs in this area are designed to cost and performance specification provided by the customer. After Qual-testing most systems have be produced and sold to the retail and government markets. - Provided proposal, design and analysis support on various mechanical/structural show action effects and simulators for Universal Studio’s, Disney and others. Most recently design components for Universals Simpson’s ride vehicle and Harry Potter’s Dragon affect. - Designed, analyzed and developed small and large-scale structural/ mechanical equipment for space hardware ground support. - Drive sizing, drive type selection and design for high dynamic large diameter ground base antenna tracking and communication systems. - Performed site management and technical liaison during installation and testing for a large-scale radar test range used to measure RCS of an object. - Site Engineer responsible for the mechanical and structural assembly and alignment of large antenna systems and inflatable radome enclosures.
