  Steven Van Wagoner has over 14 years of coaching experience. He holds a National C-License with the US Soccer Federation (USSF) and is current on grassroots player development framework. He is a certified member of National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), plus holds certifications in Safe Sport and CDC Concussion protocol. He is the president of Ogden Soccer Club. He has participated in thousands of hours of professional learning and development in soccer, and has trained and certified dozens of soccer coaches through-out his career. He currently coaches his daughters’ 2005 girls’ competitive team and 2009 girls’ competitive team. The teams he has had the honor to coach have won several regional titles, and have received awards including accolades from the Mayor of Ogden. As a coach he believes in teaching accountability and life skills to all players, through the game of soccer, so that they have success in life outside of the game.   Summary: There is a better way to provide youth soccer. As a new parent supporting my first daughter playing youth soccer I learned it's not what it appears and the "economics of youth sport" is creating a negative impact on our future leaders. The old national model of asking local community members to donate thousands of hours a years as volunteers so that an office out of state could collect millions of dollars to pay a huge staff and executive salaries didn't provide a path for sustainability in our community. Our community relied on that national organization and trusted in it for youth soccer since 1981 but that national organization grew away from its roots. I could not in good spirit offer to our community, what was taking so much behind the scenes and parents never knew. After a decade of volunteer service I knew our community could not afford to support the national player fees being sent out of state and the increased disconnect in our children's needs. I also knew the best way to teach our children was have better educated parent coaches which could be provided by US Soccer training. I had to move on resigning from AYSO to begin Ogden Soccer, a locally vested non-profit and 100% volunteer powered on behalf of the kids. In its success I have helped multiple other organizations find their own footing to break off and begin new. It was fun and we all did our best with in the confines under what executives refer to as the AYSO "yellow bible". It's not AYSO that provide soccer for the kids in your community, its the volunteer parents and coaches. Show less
