In this position, I designed and analyzed plans and specifications for maintaining traffic (MOT), signing, pavement marking, signals, safety studies and traffic capacity analyses. Work was performed for governmental clients (Michigan DOT, various County Road Commissions, and various cities) as well as for private clients. This work included performing various engineering calculations using manual and computerized methods as well as developing various types of CAD details and sheets using Microstation software. For the traffic operations component, the analysis was done using Synchro/SimTraffic software. I also authored or reviewed all transportation management plans (TMPs) for MDOT within the same coverage area. In this position, I was the lead contact for MDOT for all traffic and safety issues within Oakland County (northern suburbs of Detroit). I authored or reviewed all maintaining traffic plans for all MDOT construction projects within Oakland County, as well as all construction permits within the same area. I also reviewed over 25 different locations within the area during my tenure for new signalization or for new signal phasing in conjunction with MDOT's signal staff in Lansing. I also reviewed and approved new driveways, roadway improvements, and traffic impact studies from developers. I also contributed to MDOT's implementation of the FHWA Work Zone Mobility Rule, including the development of the initial MDOT Work Zone Safety and Mobility Manual. Traffic Signals Engineer

In this position, I performed plan reviews of MDOT projects on a statewide basis for traffic signal design issues, including the detailed review of plans and proposals for new, temporary, or revised signals. For approximately 1.5 years (October 2002 to June 2004), I acted as the manager of the Signal Design unit. During this time, I led a team that was responsible for a $9 million signal design budget by assigning work to a staff of technicians. I coordinated and reviewed work for the technicians, and packaged plans for letting. I also served as the "go-to" individual for all signal design questions for MDOT on a statewide basis.
