I write a column called Pokin Around. I'm free to write about whatever interests me; it's the most fulfilling reporting job I've ever had. In 2009 I was named the Suburban Newspapers of America Journalist of the Year for weeklies. In 2008 I won a Lee President's Award, a national award given by Lee Enterprises, which owns newspapers across America. I write a column called Pokin Around. This was a great place to work and Riverside is where my son was born. The man who owned the paper, Tim Hays, had an office in the building. I left The Press-Enterprise just before the paper was purchased by Belo Corp. My favorite story was driving across Southern California under cover of darkness with a repo man. I consistently won awards for feature writing from the Inland Empire Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, including one for Best Photos and Story by the same person. (Despite the fact, I now admit, the dark area that looks like a tree in the main photo is actually my finger over part of the lens.) Show less
