I highly recommend Steve Pearl as a litigator and mediator. Steve successfully mediated a difficult overtime case involving high emotion and a lawyer as one of the parties. My client and I went into the case thinking the possibility of settlement was slim, and we were pleasantly surprised that Steve was able to help us settle the case. Steve has the right personal touch for a mediator, likable and persuasive. His real-world experience and subject matter expertise, particularly in employment law and wage-hour law, will help people find the right path to settlement.

With more than 20 years of employment law experience on both the plaintiff and defense sides and hundreds of mediations under his belt, Steven G. Pearl practices what he calls an “adaptive” style of mediation. “There are times in every mediation when one needs to be more facilitative and other times when one needs to be more evaluative,” he says. “Especially in employment law. There can be plenty of emotion in these cases, and the mediator needs to give the parties an opportunity to vent, particularly at the start. And you typically get to a point later in the day when both sides need to hear some objective analysis of where they stand and why settlement makes sense.”Mr. Pearl has been recognized as a Daily Journal “Top Neutral - Rising Star” in 2013 and as a Super Lawyer in Dispute Resolution and Employment Law every year from 2011 to 2017. He earned his BA with Honors from U.C. Berkeley and was a Dean's Scholar at U.C. Hastings College of the Law. He served as a judicial extern to U.S. District Court Judge Fern M. Smith.Attorneys who have mediated with Mr. Pearl acknowledge not only his expertise, but also his calm, empathic demeanor and his tenacity. “What I like to be known for as a mediator is not just that I’m patient or that I know the law,” Mr. Pearl says. “I love it that I’m known as someone who is tenacious as hell and won't give up on a settlement.”Mr. Pearl’s unique combination of skills is paying off for his growing client list. Over the past year, Mr. Pearl has settled multi-million dollar wage and hour class and PAGA actions, as well as individual cases alleging discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour violations. Mr. Pearl authors the “California Employment Law Blog,” the “Mediation and Negotiation Blog,” and the “Employment Law Update,” a monthly email newsletter with over 2,000 subscribers, including plaintiffs’ counsel, defense counsel, and many neutrals.
