February 12, 2018 To Whom it may Concern: I am writing this letter on behalf of Stephen Metzger. I recently hired Steve to serve as an adjunct instructor in the Differentiated Instruction Master’s program at St. Bonaventure University’s Buffalo Center and have been highly impressed by his professionalism and performance in the classroom. As you can see from Steve’s resume, he has a broad skill set and range of experiences. He draws on those skills and experiences to create highly engaging and challenging lessons in the college classroom. The SBU Buffalo Center program is a very challenging format in which to teach. Classes are Friday nights for 3 hours and Saturday for 5 ½ hours. Each class lasts only 5 weeks. Steve rose to the challenge! Feedback I received from the students indicates that Steve designed lessons that were so engaging that time just flew by. As program director, I am in direct supervision of all adjunct faculty. I had access to his online course platform (Moodle) and was able to see how highly organized and efficient he is. I also had the privilege of observing Steve teach for a few hours on a Saturday. I found the learning environment to be engaging, challenging and supportive. In my opinion, one of Steve’s greatest strengths is his questioning techniques. He asks the students to discuss challenging questions and engaged their higher order thinking skills. I offer very strong support for Steve’s application for a position in any hirer education program. I feel his experience, skills, and classroom presence make him an asset to any university for which he chooses to work. Please feel free to contact me directly if I can provide you with any further information. Respectfully, Rene’ E. Hauser Director, Differentiated Instruction Master’s Programs St. Bonaventure University rhauser@sbu.edu
