Steve is a first-rate operations leader. I was extremely impressed with his ability to manage NPR’s 24x7, high profile and high availability Network Operations Center. During the often stressful and demanding activities of keeping a network on the air, Steve was always calm, rational, and pragmatic. His customer-first attitude kept the focus where it needed to be. I also enjoyed working with him on new product ideas, and found him to be extremely forward thinking about new business and technology opportunities in media. He is a manager who fosters collaboration with and confidence in his teams.

I'm a civilian consultant for the US Army Combined Joint Task Force at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan. I provide the necessary expertise to maintain and operate an FM radio station that broadcasts messaging to the local population. I also mentor the Afghan-American linguists that voice the messaging on broadcast procedures and techniques. In addition, I've worked with soldiers of the Afghan National Army advising them on how to sustain the "Radio-In-A-Box" (RIAB) program which was handed over to them by the US Army. Using connections I had made with local Afghan broadcasters, I advised the ANA on how to best sustain the RIAB program by reaching out to homegrown talent and expertise in radio broadcasting. I wrote a Request For Quotation for a new satellite distribution system for our new commercial distribution system called "The Hub." I wrote a test plan to evaluate new Audio over IP (AoIP) equipment using split-streaming technology. I represented the PRSS at the National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas making five presentations during the convention to public radio station engineers and managers. I sat in on labor negotiations representing management on drafting a new labor contract with union technicians. I established new work procedures for the PRSS Network Operations Center (NOC). iBiquity is the patent holder for the digital radio technology called In Band On Channel (IBOC) and distributed under the trademark HD Radio. I worked with broadcast equipment manufacturers and radio stations on rollouts of new features and applications of the technology. I traveled to Sao Paulo, Brazil to work with Brazilian broadcasters on the adoption of the technology and to Las Vegas, Nevada to attend the National Association of Broadcasters convention and help set up and staff iBiquity's booth on the display floor. I also attended a meeting of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) to present a New Work Item initiating the process of adopting a digital radio standard for the FM band in Europe. I launched and edited the online newsletter "IBOC Update" to inform broadcasters of the latest advancements in IBOC technology. Show less
