Bio
Eric Hogan
Steve was the Senior Editor on the first six books from our children’s storybook series, The Gumboot Kids Nature Mysteries. We loved working with Steve. He was wholeheartedly dedicated to the success of our books, right from initial concept development all the way through to the marketing strategy. His passion for the project made the process all the more enjoyable! We’re grateful to Steve!
Linda Gustafson
I always enjoy working with Steve, and am impressed with his take, approach, and critical insights on shaping both the content, and the look and feeling of the books. He is enthusiastic, driven and focussed, dedicated to producing expressive, powerful and unique (and uniquely beautiful) books, with good attention to detail, but always collaborative and respectful as a team player. Each book that we've done together stands out in its category: on the Tragically Hip, with the Hockey Hall of Fame (and other sports books), for the National Film Board of Canada: each book was a unique exploration into the best that book could be.

Editorial Director
-
Jan 2016 - Jul 2020
As Editorial Director I was responsible for establishing the direction of Firefly's award-winning and bestselling house list. I handled publishing acquisitions and identified, engaged and retained new authors, editors, illustrators and designers. I was responsible for building business partnerships and IP opportunities, including successful branded partnerships with the Hockey Hall of Fame, the National Film Board of Canada, and the award-winning kid’s show, Scout and the Gumboot Kids, among others. I led a team of four in-house editors and countless freelancers, oversaw all editorial and design spending, created profit & loss reports and examined sales and industry trends to help strengthen the company's overall editorial direction. I was also a hands-on editor for five to eight marquee titles per year.
