Building single-page static HTML micro sites for clients, mobile development for iOS (both iPhone and iPad), working on internal projects in Ruby on Rails. As well as working on client-facing projects, I managed our internal IT systems. This gave me experience in Microsoft Exchange Server, Nortel Business Element Manager, and I built a stapler that tweets.

This project involved developing a system for transmitting video through plate steel using ultrasonic transducers. An embedded linux system captured video from a USB webcam, modulated the video stream onto a QAM16 carrier signal, and sent the signal over USB to an FPGA for transmission through steel. An FPGA attached to a PC on the other side of the steel demodulated the video signal for display. While on a three-month sabbatical from my PhD, I developed and deployed software to capture a user’s social communications metadata using an Android device. The software was then deployed to 27 devices which were used to analyse the effect of social communications on academic performance at a Glasgow high school. Technical Experience: Developing and deploying custom android firmware builds including custom UI capture middleware
