Steve joined as a DBA due to a short-term lack of resource. Steve very quickly got up to speed, identified immediate issues and remedied these. Existing processes were also reviewed and with his experience was able to recommend and implement changes to improve where necessary. Steve is very methodical and approachable. Other teams were able to discuss issues or enhancements needed with Steve, who was then able to make necessary changes. Steve will consider options, invest time in formulating the best solution and then taking the time to explain his reasoning and approach. Once we had a permanent DBA in place, Steve was able to work alongside and provide guidance using his extensive SQL knowledge. Thank you Steve and I would highly recommend you for any future roles.

Implementation and daily monitoring of tasks (SQL Server backups, database maintenance, housekeeping, UNIT4 Financials\Dream) for customers, to ensure good performance and secure with minimal downtime.Implement scripts (T-SQL) against all customer databases to gather metrics, identify indexing, volumes to ensure optimum performance is maintained. Implemented for Oasis Healthcare which immediately resulted in no downtime during period-end, unlike previous months. Implemented SQL Server Log Shipping for Rank Organization and SuperGroup. Process tested, documented with DR tests scheduled yearly. Customers now have proven recovery strategy. Provided SQL Server Administration to Costcutter during migration from Sage to UNIT4 Financials followed by ongoing day to day management. Early involvement meant the risky part of the project (i.e. go-live) happened seamlessly with minimal issues. This led to a “Customer Success Story” between UNIT4 and the customer.Developed scripts (T-SQL, PowerShell and DOS) to reduce time taken for customer daily database checks from 2.5 hours to 1 hour, saving 1 day (20%) per week. Writing Ad-hoc SQL and T-SQL scripts when required for customersPresented technical training course to ensure that customers can manage environments correctly. This covered SQL Server database administration as well as UNIT4 Financials and Dream. Collateral used internally, with customers and presented this at UNIT4 user groups.Lack of Oracle 12 and 13 database administration knowledge within development team caused issues at critical stages of product testing (data volumes and performance). Immediate issues resolved then scheduled time periodically to review and make any further changes. Resulted in continued availability of the databases by development.Increased revenue of Managed Service by identifying knowledge gaps with customers from support calls raised or leads, then promoting service through to sale. Brought in as an expert on UNIX and ORACLE to strengthen the consultancy team. This involved installation, configuration and technical troubleshooting of CODA product set on various platforms (Windows, UNIX) and databases (ORACLE, SQL Server) for customers.Due to lack of US consultants, I volunteered as resource in the US to troubleshoot CODA environments for customers. Worked for the customer Tower Group in San Francisco who were faced with many technical issues that prevented actual live running. Able to identify and prioritise issues quickly. Within 3 days, most issues resolved and excellent feedback received.I developed and presented technical training courses to customers and put together troubleshooting kit-bag for consultants. I used this collateral to provide technical training to CODA partners in South Africa.I spent several months working on a large project for customer STA travel. Using ETL and T-SQL, successfully configured a data warehouse in order that complex, highly transactional SQL Server database with large volumes could be reported on. Show less
