I have known Stephen for over thirty years, as a client in the music industry. He has been an affluent influence in my collection of Vinyl and CD recordings as well as DVDs. If there is anything you are looking for Steve will help you find it. He has my highest recommendation.

Sophie Edwards

After working a few odd jobs here and there, my first job after moving to Toronto was at Sunrise Records, with Steve as the manager. He was an approachable, down-to-Earth guy who always brought the best out in his staff. And as someone new to Toronto with few friends or contacts at that point, he helped make me feel at home. Though I've long since moved on from Sunrise, I consider my former coworkers there to be my extended family, and a lot of that has to do with the culture Steve created within the store. Steve has earned my highest recommendation as a dedicated and passionate retail manager who would be an asset to any organization fortunate enough to have him.

    • General Manager of Retail Operations--HBO Pop-up Store

Through my connections with Sunrise Records, I was recruited to be the General Manager of Retail Operations for The HBO Canada Pop-up Store. Using the launch of the new season of Game Of Thrones, the primary objective of the store was to promote brand awareness of both HBO's slate of properties and the launch of Bell Media's Crave TV. As such, I was directly involved with designing store lay-out, selecting and purchasing store fixtures, product selection, merchandising, recruiting staff, scheduling/man-hour budgets, set-up and tear-down of the store, tracking stock turns, replenishing stock, and maintaining store up-keep and presentation.Through the exceptional efforts of my staff and the fantastic support of the management at Katalyst Licensing & Promotions I was able exceed proposed sales targets by a factor of four!

Best job in the world! Of course any and all of the managerial responsibilities were competently attended to...Hiring and, when necessary, the opposite of hiring, man-hour budgets and maintaining wage/sales targets, purchasing with an eye on stock-turns and margins, shipping and receiving, merchandising, daily sales/inventory reports and accounting thereof...this list could go on and on...What made this the best job in the world? Awesome staff and wonderful customers! You can't have one without the other...two sides of a coin really. Customers regularly complemented me for having so many young and promising positive people populate my stores. Every one of them striving to offer the best service and thereby cultivate a curious collection of characters come to be known as our Customer Of those who have been under my employ, many have been promoted to management at Sunrise, some have joined the ranks at record companies others have gone on to fantastic careers in film-making, music making, police services, doctors, lawyers, accountants and several have taken the entrepreneurial route and started their own businesses. All of whom have contributed directly to the success I have had at Sunrise.(thank you one and all!)There was a time when I believed that I was fortunate and even lucky to have been part of so many great teams throughout my career at Sunrise. Until one of our most loyal customers pointed out that my understanding of the needs of both staff and customers, being fair when allowable and firm when necessary, he said that "Neither fortune or luck play a part in this. You are the most 'people-person' I know, and that is your super-power!." When one hears words like these, one can't help but stand a little taller, chest a tad more full. My strength is in my numbers. My ability to select a small group and, through action and by example, motivate them into a committed team is 'work.' Work, it would appear, to which I am very suited.

Reporting to the Director of Operations I supervised 8 Sunrise Records locations, motivating managers and staff to develop a loyal customer base in each location by creating and implementing merchandising standards, and executing any and all company directives.
