After more than two and a half years in post supporting the Community and Mental Health Trust in the wonderful county of Dorset, time and opportunity have allowed me to move to an Acute Trust setting here in the equally beautiful county of Worcestershire. The Trust is made up of three principal sites, Worcester Royal acute, Redditch Alexandra acute and Kidderminster. The former was built under the private finance initiative (PFI) and opened in 2002. It provides specialist services for the whole of Worcestershire including stroke services and cardiac stenting. The state-of-the-art Worcestershire Oncology Centre opened in January 2015, providing radiotherapy services for cancer patients, the first time these services have been available in the county. The hospital has nine operating theatres including four laminar theatres. It has 500 beds and serves a population of more than 550,000. The Alexandra Hospital in Redditch was opened in 1985. It serves a population of approximately 200,000 and has over 300 beds. The Alexandra hospital is the major centre for the county’s urology service. The hospital has eight operating theatres, MRI and CT scanners and a cancer unit. Kidderminster Hospital houses the Kidderminster Treatment Centre which offers outstanding clinical facilities and patient accommodation for a wide range of daycase, short stay and inpatient procedures. The nurse-led minor injuries services is open 24 hours a day and treats more than 24,000 patients every year. A very different health environment than previously experienced, however one that offers a superb challenge that I am looking forward to. Show less

Service Director of Estates and Facilities

My latest role sees me take up the post of Service Director of Estates and Facilities at Dorset Healthcare University Foundation Trust. The Trust has an estate that stretches across the county of Dorset providing a wide range of Community and Mental Health services to a population of almost 700,000 people. Provision of the Estates and Facilities services is delivered through 12 Community hospitals and several inpatient Mental Health facilities. I have arrived at a very exciting moment in the evolution of the Trust and healthcare in general across Dorset with the outcome of the county's Clinical Services Review after years of consultation. My team will be significantly involved in the delivery of the recommendations from this review, which sees the largest rationalisation of the Trust estate in decades. Community bedded and non-bedded hubs will be created with a view to providing patients an integrated community set of services in their locale, reducing travel, delivering services to their homes seven days a week and ultimately reducing bed pressures on our acute facilities in the county. This is my first foray into the health sector and one loaded with significant and exciting challenges. I will update my profile as the Trust's plans are realised. Show less

This was the first role that took me towards the facilities management career that I have undertaken ever since. I was selected to head up the business unit tasked to deliver PPP/PFI initiatives for the Department in Northern Ireland. The role allowed me to develop my commercial awreness very rapidly and in leading a multi disciplinary team I found a gap around FM, which I choose to fill as well as directing the unit. A tall order and one that had me learning the fundementals of FM very rapidly. A superb foundation for my transition into the FM sector. Show less
