Maintenance Engineer
-
Jul 2011 - Aug 2011
I took the role of a maintenance engineer whereby my team and I were tasked with the role of undertaking both preventive and corrective maintenance of the hundreds of machines running in the factory. The role was very demanding and taxing as the personnel in the maintenance department were few and the machines seemed to break down all the time. Some of the machines were also too big to be handled alone and thus required team effort to get the work done as quickly as possible. This experience aided in improving my time management skills as well as improved my communication skills and technical understanding of how industry works in the real world.

I undertook various roles across the company’s workshop which entailed; Assembly of safari and commercial trailers, a variety of vehicle modifications including the Kenyan Presidential Land Rover and Big Cat Diaries Land Rovers as well as electrical and hydraulic assembly of assortment of Liebherr earthmoving equipment. This provided me with a lot of hands on experience working within a workshop with limited resources and manpower. It also improved my communication skills amongst colleagues as this was needed to best learn how to improve one’s skills in using the variety of equipment available in the workshop.
