Steve is a natural leader. He instinctively requires of himself that which he expects from others and he cares genuinely about the work-life balance of the people he manages. He also rigorously maintains and expands a wealth of technical knowledge, most notably in the areas of Oracle database development and administration. Steve's an excellent candidate for a technical or managerial position because he knows how to communicate with the people sitting on either side of the table. I was privileged to work with Steve over the past decade at PTel Mobile, and I reported directly to him during my last four years with the company. Despite the consistently tight deadlines and the seemingly never-ending onslaught of large-scale development projects we faced, I never saw him lose his cool or buckle under pressure. That's because he is proactive and diligent in his operating methods. He knows when to let someone take an idea and run with it, and he knows when it's necessary to say "this is how we're going to do it." If given the opportunity, I would happily work with or for Steve again. I wouldn't have to think twice about it.
