Proto Resources & Investments Ltd aims to be a globally significant nickel producer by enacting a three-pronged strategy of acquiring and developing assets, developing its proprietary nickel laterite processing technology and continuing its frontier multi-commodity exploration campaign. Protos flagship nickel project is at Barnes Hill near Beaconsfield in Northern Tasmania. The deposit has approximately 125,000 tonnes of contained nickel and three million tonnes of iron ore as well as other elements such as cobalt. Proto is targeting production in 2014 aiming to produce approximately 4,000 tonnes of nickel metal per annum. Metals Finance Ltd can earn a 50% interest in the project by completing flow sheet designs, engineering and feasibility studies and by operating the mine. With an estimated IRR of 47 per cent and Net Present Value (NPV) of greater than $100 million, based on the ion exchange flow sheet alone, Barnes Hill represents a very exciting growth opportunity for the company.
