Since leaving the University of Exeter, I have been practising and refining my skills as a writer - I've been writing in one form or another since I was a teenager....as a teenager, several of my poems were published in anthologies, and I was privileged to edit and publish 'Riff-Raff Poetry Magazine' for some years....then the world of 'work' got in the way. Even then, I was able to put my writing skills to good use - many, many 'bid' papers, reports, and even a few articles (mostly on RFID and Library Improvements)....and a couple of books - 'Achieving Transformational Change In Academic Libraries' and 'Customer Service In Academic Libraries' (both published by Chandos) - both of which seem to have been quite popular.... Since 2014, however, I've been able to concentrate properly on what I really love doing - writing fiction. I've had two books published so far - 'Bridie's Bridge' and 'Frost At Midnight and other Christmas Stories', along with a few poems and short stories published in journals and magazines. My latest projects include a collection of 'Faerie Stories' and a collection of short stories (both of which I hope will be published in 2017/18), further 'Bridie's Bridge' books (planned for release in 2018)....and I'm very excited about a new project, which I'm working on in collaboration with a local photographer - 'Winter Dreams'. This will be, I think, quite an adventure - possibly unique - a series of word&image compositions which build to describe an intense, emotional love story. It'll appear as a book later in the year, and will also be serialised (from November 2017 to March 2018) via Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.... #WinterDreams #LoveStory #WinterDreamsProject #Christmas & Winter

    • Head of Library Services
      • Nov 2008 - Jul 2014

I was responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational management to some 40 staff who between them manage all customer interactions across the University’s library sites. It was my responsibility to ensure that each of our customers receive a positive, rich and fulfilling library experience whether they visit in person or online. My principal duties were to ensure that our staff were well trained, motivated, flexible, open to change and delivered outstanding customer service at all times; that our staffing structures and skills mix were supportive of our strategic direction, and that our self-service and other equipment was appropriate, reliable and easy to use.
