Stephen has been a bright light in the life and work of the Anderson Group over the past decade plus. He has a broad understanding of physics, the ability to quickly identify salient principles and strategies to address a given problem, a willingness to clearly and precisely communicate his methods, and a deeply principled approach to the issues presented by climate change.

I have a great admiration for Stephen's mathematical talent and technical skills. Our collaborator started when I was a graduate student at Caltech and he was working at JPL. He mentored me during my graduate school period and we have kept collaboration afterwards. I have learned a great deal of statistics and programming from him. Stephen is a great team player and an equally great independent problem solver. He is a warm-hearted and excellent mentor. It is a great pleasure to learn from him and collaborate with him over so many years.
