As STEM Team Advisor I am responsible for providing training and support to maths teachers with the aim of improving teaching and learning. My main duties include:• Designing, presenting and reviewing teacher training workshops• Visiting schools and liaising with school management to develop common approaches to STEM teaching and learning• Designing resources to support teaching and learning including interactive maths applications, instructional videos and lesson plans• Working with the Teacher Education Section of the Department of Education and Skills to prioritise areas of support for teachers• Designing and implementing national training programmes to execute Department-of-Education-and-Skills initiatives including The Education Action Plan 2017 and The STEM Education Policy Statement• Leading a team of 40+ part-time associates in delivering a national teacher training programme• Planning and organising Maths Counts - an annual, national conference for teachers of mathematics• Developing content for the online teaching and learning portal www.projectmaths.ie• Promoting the support services through social media and electronic newsletters Show less

Project Maths Development Officer

I develop and deliver teacher training modules to support the implementation of the new second-level mathematics syllabi.I develop resources to support teaching and learning in mathematics. All resources are developed in line with the latest best international practice. Types of resources developed include teaching & learning plans, video tutorials, interactive GeoGebra, higher-order questioning worksheets and interactive assessment quizzes.I manage the website www.projectmaths.ie and took the lead in developing and implementing the website's current design. I taught maths, physics, science and computer programming across junior and senior cycle and at all levels. I was involved in developing lessons aimed at engaging students and encouraging them to develop their thinking. I was adult education officer - responsible for organising courses for members of the local community. I was head of the maths department. I was involved in BT Young Scientist, Seismology in Schools Pilot Porgramme and was lead teacher for our school in the Microsoft Partners in Learning programmes.
