IT MANAGER

Working as the IT Manager at The Glasgow Academy, a highly respected independent school in Glasgow’s West End, my role is to support the Network and IT infrastructure across 4 sites. Currently supporting 750 Workstations/Laptops, 1300 Users and 12 Dell PowerEdge Servers. I have Line Management responsibility for 4 members of staff. Servers consist of a File, Print, Active Directory, Exchange, Internet, Hyper-V and System Center. I use Barracuda Backup for server backups. I also administer 3rd party Security software for Anti-virus, email filtering and web filtering. We host and update an external Website and Intranet. We run all Cisco networking equipment including a Cisco wireless network. I work with a budget of £350K per year and deal with external parties to arrange quotations, specifications and contracting work on a regular basis. Staff liaison, software and hardware installations, fault finding and carrying out logged requests are carried out on a daily basis. Recent projects have included deploying InTune/Endpoint Manager, Microsoft Teams and using the full Office 365 and Azure AD infrastructure. Mitigating malicious attacks is a particular interest, priority and strength. I am proficient in large scale client upgrades and migration and finding the best value for money in the running of the department. Working as a System Administrator in a high profile organisation, making available the various personnel systems for the personal management, pay and pensions for the British Army. In a team of 5 supporting 1200 Users over 4 Domains using Windows NT4, 2000 and 2003. 1200 Desktop PCs include Dell Optiplex and Compaq EVO and 20+ Servers include mostly HP/Compaq Proliant and Dell Poweredge. My main duties include daily backups, MS Exchange administration and maintenance, Anti-virus configuration/maintenance, actioning problems passed by the IT Helpdesk, giving Users access to resources on demand, Web access and maintenance using IIS, Frontpage 97/2000. Other duties, when required, include Server builds, software rollout and basic Web design. Advice given, and completion of Change Proposals that are raised by customers through the change system.
