Visiting Assistant Professor

Abdominal Imaging SectionDept. of Radiology and Medical ImagingStayed on for a short while as a Visiting Professor while transitioning out of practice. The most useful part of that for me and the residents were probably a couple of board review sessions.

Body & Chest Imager (US, CT, MRI, Image-guided procedures). Spent a good deal of time teaching the residents and fellows. Really enjoyed working closely with a number of fellows in-training from multiple countries throughout Europe and the Middle East. The residents and fellows at UVA are really top-notch.

Fellow - Clinical Instructor / Chest and Body Imaging
-
Oct 2010 - Sep 2011
Came to UVA after finishing a Nuclear Medicine Fellowship at Wake Forest (see the education section). Job market wasn't the best and my situation required me to wait a year before coming to UVA to pursue what I really love, general radiology, and in this case thoraco-abdominal imaging and body procedures. Worked hard and loved it.

Web Designer / Web Developer

2005 - 2008
Principally involved in design, development and testing of web sites for selling Symantec software, including optimization strategies for sales. Developed a lot of web development and web design skills here. Wasn't much of an artist in early life, but I developed an appreciation for user interface design and web layouts, as well as the requisite technical skills with multiple web technologies (the stuff under the hood). I've continued to be involved with that ever since leaving Digital River to pursue a medical career again. Unfortunately, or more aptly fortunately, the return to radiology practice did not last very long, although it was worth the effort. Giving up clinical practice was hard decision because I still love Radiology, but all the mix of all the prior experiences has turned out to be of great benefit later in life, i.e. when I'm technically sort of 'retired.'. Project Officer for USAF / PACS development
-
Jul 1994 - Jun 1995
Pardon the acronyms. The government loves them: USAF (United States Air Force) project coordinator for what at the time was called the MDIS (Medical Diagnostic Imaging System) project, now under TATRC (Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center) at Fort Detrick, MD. MDIS at the time was headed by US Army Colonel Fred Goeringer. Essentially involved with multiple private sector vendors and DOD (Department of Defense) medical facilities in the development of a PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) for filmless / digital medical imaging, something which is mainstream today.
