Putting experiences up to this point together, common themes emerge: I value each and every professional relationship. I always look forward to my next challenge, and have an insatiable appetite for learning. People can approach me with just about any financial problem and I can either help them solve it or find someone who can. My areas of expertise include: Nonprofit audits and reviews Tax preparation, planning, and resolution for individuals and… Show more Putting experiences up to this point together, common themes emerge: I value each and every professional relationship. During my transition to a new location, I learned: What professional leadership looks like at a large organization. What it is like to have time to reflect on work your doing. To review a system, reflect on departmental goals and compare the two in drafting reports. That I appreciate autonomy; I push myself harder and accomplish more when left to my own devices. Best memory: Using Oracle Fusion and SQL to test a credit scoring model. During my transition to a new location, I learned: What professional leadership looks like at a large organization. I learned: What teamwork and being part of a close-knit group feels like. That I could tackle a variety of complex projects from audits to forensics to business valuations and develop professional reports, thanks to my formative years in writing and research while caddying I could still surprise myself - passing the CPA exam in 9 months while in grad school and working full time. The right way to perform an audit and how rewarding it can be to work with nonprofits. That I… Show more I learned: What teamwork and being part of a close-knit group feels like. The right way to perform an audit and how rewarding it can be to work with nonprofits. That I had a knack for dealing with clients - from the most demanding to the most sarcastic, thanks again to my days as a caddie and learning how not to treat clients at Omni. That long hours and a demanding schedule did not deter me from accomplishing my goals, but that family comes first. Best memories: roasting the office at a Christmas party; firm breakfasts the last Saturday of tax season; surrounding myself with incredibly smart, talented accountants who pushed me every day. I learned: That an intense desire to solve a problem can be a springboard to your career: clients deserved better; I decided to try and make a difference in the tax resolution industry and became an Enrolled Agent to get my foot in the door at an accounting firm during tax season. The pros and cons of being a sole proprietor. That despite my tax resolution experience, I had a passion for accounting work: it challenged me and encompassed who I was as a person, from how I like to… Show more I learned: That an intense desire to solve a problem can be a springboard to your career: clients deserved better; I decided to try and make a difference in the tax resolution industry and became an Enrolled Agent to get my foot in the door at an accounting firm during tax season. That despite my tax resolution experience, I had a passion for accounting work: it challenged me and encompassed who I was as a person, from how I like to interact with people to how much I wanted to help solve problems. How much I enjoyed business valuations and the work that went into preparing a tax return. That I needed to further my education if I wanted to be a CPA, so I enrolled in graduate school. Best memory: Going to lunch with both CPAs after tax season, learning they wanted me to continue working with them while pursuing my education. I learned: That with a passion for something, I have no limits: I can drive 20,000+ miles in 4 months, live in my car on a wooden box, take truck-stop showers, live for days on minimal food, and write in a style that keeps me up all night from sheer mad joy. How to develop a business process: from location research and projections down to a break-even analysis, writing timelines and submissions to an editor, formatting PDFs and e-book uploads, as well as marketing and website… Show more I learned: That with a passion for something, I have no limits: I can drive 20,000+ miles in 4 months, live in my car on a wooden box, take truck-stop showers, live for days on minimal food, and write in a style that keeps me up all night from sheer mad joy. How to develop a business process: from location research and projections down to a break-even analysis, writing timelines and submissions to an editor, formatting PDFs and e-book uploads, as well as marketing and website design. What freedom feels like. How beautiful our country is. How to be grateful. How to fail, and fail big - but more importantly, how to pick myself back up and reflect. Best memories: Being a Tim Clark Posse member during the 2010 season and being with him during all four rounds of the Player's Championship, which he won; meeting members of the media, Fatiha, Justin Rose, Adam Schupak; staying at a bed and breakfast in old town Augusta for free, being tucked in by the owner after a night out. I learned: What it feels like to need a job during a horrible recession. Everything I needed to know about the IRS and how to resolve tax liabilities for individuals. How not to treat clients, how not to treat employees. What it means to be ethical and have integrity. My best memory: being notified I had been accepted into the GWAA, which inspired me to escape and take a huge risk. I learned: What it feels like to need a job during a horrible recession. I learned: How to caddie from the best. How to interact with people from all walks of life. How to start a blog, and at night, struggle through the process of crafting my own writing style. To adapt to constant change and surroundings: when I was promoted, I needed to learn the membership, caddies, staff and routines of three different private clubs. I had the self-discipline to focus on something for a long time, if only for myself: drafting a 401k plan document for the… Show more I learned: How to caddie from the best. I had the self-discipline to focus on something for a long time, if only for myself: drafting a 401k plan document for the company that months later was not used; but using this knowledge to help implement and represent the interests of my friends.
