Everyone always talks about the myth of the 10x software engineer but I can assure you that Stephen is one of them. He has technical mastery over systems architecture and databases and his attention to detail and quality of work around data accuracy and recoverability is unmatched. With Stephen’s leadership, our team consistently developed and shipped new features for Developers and he was integral to defining new success metrics around viewership and broadcasting. Beyond being a fantastic Individual Contributor, he is also great mentor. He helped get our new team members up to speed and continued to share his technical expertise to teams in Developer Experience and across Twitch. I’m very lucky to have had the chance to partner with him to ship the first two Insights products for Game Developers and Extension Developers on Twitch. The products and our roadmap would not be where they are today without his innovation and collaboration.

As a Principal Engineer on the Digital Publishing Platform team, I drove technical vision of our next generation of foundational services, from commerce to social. I was the lead developer of the our new accounts system, which will go live with Magic The Gathering: Arena's open beta, leading a small skunkworks team of two senior engineers and communicating with our tech director on architecture and process. After, I served as a mentoring resource for the platform team at large as our traditionally .NET team ramped up on our Go and Kubernetes technologies and prepared for general release of the accounts system.

I served in a Senior Individual Contributor role on the Insights team, mentoring my coworkers, planning systems architecture, writing documentation, ensuring best practices, and producing great code and database work quickly and accurately. My product was a developer reporting pipeline built around Airflow, and grew rapidly. Our system was capable of processing billions of minutes watched events each day, serving many different classes of game developer.I was responsible for communicating with product managers, junior engineers, and engineers cross-org to get access to the component data we relied on and ensure its quality. Our customers depended on my quality-paranoia to ensure their data was both precise and accurate.

During my time on Data Reliability (known as D8A), I accomplished a lot: * Operated and administered our remaining store of self-managed Postgres clusters * Developed products which helped service teams take ownership of their data- I discussed our process on the Twitch Engineering Blog, linked below. * Provisioned servers with Terraform, configured them with Puppet, and engineered self-service and database operation tools in Go. * Architected a developer reporting product in Airflow that delivers tens of thousands of viewership reports daily. * Mentored junior hires in our technologies and best practices. In late 2017, the reporting product mentioned above gained enough traction with our customers that it was spun off into its own Insights team where I serve now in a senior role.

At Syndicate, LLC, I contributed to the Technic family of products by maintaining the Technic Launcher, architecting new initiatives in both Java and .NET technologies, and overseeing the creation of the official Technic modpacks. I also undertook skunkworks operations to fix defects in third-party content and produce first-party content for our modpacks. I managed a small team of volunteer moderators and part-time employees who handled support, social networking, and content creation. I also researched new ways of providing user visibility through analytics and reporting. At Syndicate, I assisted in charity efforts, helping to raise over $22,000 for Child's Play charity, as well as provided technical advice to external parties such as MinecraftEdu and Curse, Inc. My work was largely self-driven, but I also coordinated with our designers and external partners to complete my tasks.

At GDSX (later Concur), I developed .NET solutions for the travel industry. During my time here, I took ownership of and overhauled a data-cleaning product, brought several products into PCI compliance, and assisted with a wide array of .NET technologies, MVC 3, a custom implementation of the Razor Engine, and took on many other challenges.
