Historic Germantown is a partnership of 18 extraordinary historic houses, destinations, and museums preserving the history of Northwest Philadelphia. This one year grant-funded project offers me the opportunity to support these institutions in building relationships with their surrounding communities. • Create community engagement strategic plans for all 18 Historic Germantown sites and assist Executive Directors in implementation • Develop and grow partnerships with residents, local organizations, and city officials on behalf of HG sites • Expand Stenton Museum's Dinah Project to further involve near neighbors in decision making within the institution Show less

With a focus on community engagement within the arts, I’ve been invited to serve in varying capacities within organizations. I’ve lectured and moderated discussions at the New School, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Black Gotham Experience, Rethinking Residencies annual symposium, and Common Field national conference. My writing can be found in Foundwork Journal. I’ve also developed site and demographic-specific programming for organizations like the Harvey Gantt Center, Association for the Study of African American Life and History, and Weeksville Heritage Center. In the height of #OscarsSoWhite, I noticed something very peculiar. Across all social media feeds, folks were calling for more mainstream recognition of Black cinematic storytelling and putting stakeholders to task. However, as a member of the Brooklyn Academy of Music and frequent attendee of filmhouses in NYC, I noticed that at screenings of Black films, I was either the only Black person in the audience or the only Black millennial present. Understanding that the disconnect may be awareness, I nabbed 10 tickets, blasted it all over social media, and the Be Reel Black Cinema Club was born. Since then, this group of anti-cinefiles has crisscrossed the boroughs being transported to every corner of the African diaspora via archival, classic, and contemporary independent film. Show less
