I offer professional development workshops for artists and arts professionals in the areas of grant writing, artist statements, exhibition preparation and career management, as well as hands-on art instruction in the fields of drawing and book arts. These workshops are grounded in my practical experience as a visual artist and arts administrator, and aim to provide a safe and welcoming atmosphere for learning. I have provided workshops for a variety of clients including Mohawk College, the Art Gallery of Hamilton, Niagara Artists Centre, Hamilton Artists Inc., The Cotton Factory, and Artists' Network. As Akimblog's Hamilton-Niagara correspondant from 2008-2015, I wrote monthly art reviews of visual art exhibitions and events in the Hamilton region as well as occasional coverage of the Niagara region. I drew upon my close knowledge of Hamilton's visual arts sector to research and write a regular column in Hamilton Magazine, a popular lifestyle magazine that published five issues annually with a focus on culture, food, fashion and design in the Hamilton region before its sudden and unfortunate demise in August 2019. My articles focused on current events in Hamilton's visual arts sector as well as profiles of local artists and studio collectives. As the leader of the Hamilton Arts Council, I established a new strategic plan for the organization through a pivotal period of transformation and worked collaboratively with the Board of Directors and the wider community to establish new programs and activities that would best serve the wider Hamilton arts community. My primary duties as Executive Director included advocacy, community engagement, fund development, and media relations, as well as duties associated with managing the staff and volunteers who keep our small yet mighty charitable non-profit arts organizations alive and thriving as an umbrella arts organization for the Hamilton region.
