HBM Architects has 40 years of experience designing libraries, and we have completed projects in 14 states. Currently I am working on a renovation and addition of a branch library in Yorktown VA and a phased interior renovation at Texas State. Another exciting project, is the renovation and addition of the existing main library for Kanawha County, in Charleston WV. The existing library was previously a Courthouse, and the historic building was constructed in 1911, will undergo a complete interior renovation. The contemporary addition will wrap two sides of the building and allow for a new main library and will connect the four public floors of the six-story building. My daily activities include consultant coordination, overseeing design staff, co-leading the Mentoring program, and leading the Revit standards committee. Show less

The majority of my time at ABA I focused on an adaptive reuse and renovation project at the University of Chicago. The transformation of the former Chicago Theological Seminary, will for the first time integrate the Department of Economics into one building. The first Phase involves a complete preservation of the existing building and repurposes the significant spaces - chapels, library, cloister - as unique academic spaces. Simultaneously, 58th street will be closed off to vehicular traffic and redesigned for pedestrians use only. Phase II is a new building that connects to Phase I and two Row houses owned by the university. This new space is in anticipation of future growth, offering a 90-seat tiered classroom, conference room, and collaborative spaces. While at ABA a few of my responsibilities included: - Created presentation materials for meetings with the University of Chicago's President, the Steering Committee, and in-house design reviews - Planned and oversaw the building of project model for the Trustees to be used for fundraising - Complete multiple design studies for exterior and interior schemes - Transitioned the project from CAD to Revit at the beginning and Design Development - Worked with Gensler, the Architect of Record, through Construction Documents for Phase I & II - Completed documents for Phase I & II from Schematic Design through Construction Documents - Reviewed and redlined drawings and details for coordination with consultants for Landscape, Structural, M/E/P, AV, Lighting, and Acoustics - Modeled, in Revit, the existing building and new construction of the Cornell Law School project team at the beginning of Design Development Show less
