  I studied the interaction between bacteria and eukaryote hosts through the type VI secretion system (T6SS) and effectors proteins. I was particularly interested in a family of T6SS proteins named Hcp and their contribution to Salmonella spp. pathogenesis. I developed skills in writing, presenting, and reading scientific articles.

  10-month virtual mentoring program, supported by Yale University. Through interactive discussion, this program introduced student to criticam practices, and strategies necessary to become leaders in their research field. This program was a partnership between Iniciativa Proxima and Yale Program in Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBS), Yale Office of International Affairs (OIA), CAPES-Yale Graduate Scholars Program, and the Yale Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning. 10-month virtual mentoring program, supported by Yale University.   I received a research scholarship to study the type VI secretion system (T6SS) of enteropathogens. I characterized a toxin secreted by Salmonella Typhimurium, which has antibacterial activity against rival bacteria. This toxin had a new mechanism of action not yet described. We were the first to study and characterize this new family of antibacterial toxins. During my project, I had contact with several techniques of molecular biology, cellular, and biochemistry.
