Completed a year industrial placement at Cummins Turbo Technologies. I rotated around 4 departments which were aerodynamics, heavy duty project team, service and applied mechanics. Aerodynamics – Completed turbocharger matching work for an external customer and created a product catalogue. Heavy Duty Current Engineering – Responsible for various projects & testing including investigating wastegate sealing and the effect of operating temperatures on V-band clamp load. Service Engineering – Completed hands-on failure diagnostics of turbochargers, assisted with turbocharger approval work and was responsible for a joint project with the engine business. Applied Mechanics – Worked mainly in the high cycle fatigue team completing risk assessments for new applications. Whilst on placement I also participated with Big Bang which is an event to encourage more school age children to consider a career in a STEM subject. Show less
