Assistant
-
Sep 2009 - Jul 2010
As an assistant on a busy equine therapy centre, my role involved the rehabilitation of injured horses through medical treatment and allowed me to have hands on experience of rehabilitation therapies. I worked closely with vets and therapists to ensure clients and horse owners were updated on their animal’s condition and aided in the full recovery of the horses. I was involved in operations and veterinary treatments given to these horses as well as their exercise programmes. I also helped to prepare for lectures held at the facility through demonstrations and giving information. I had experience and training using a high speed treadmill, therapeutic ultrasound, equine massage and a water treadmill along with rehabilitative exercises using a Passoa system and weights. Work Experience
-
Nov 2007 - Nov 2007
Working closely alongside the vets during treatments, operations and consultations, I had the opportunity to be involved in aiding the vets during operations which included tooth removal, melanoma removal and plating a broken leg on a racehorse. I was involved in using ultrasound to scan for tendon injury and in an experiment with a blind horse to evaluate vision. I also had the chance to experience remedial shoeing of a pony and rehabilitative exercising of injured horses. I was also given the sole responsibility of horses in the knock-down box prior to operations and helped to relay information to clients. Show less
