In this role, I was responsible for using critical thinking to assess all potential students in the recruitment process. As the only person in my department, I was a motivated self-starter who took initiative to conduct data and compose well-thought-out approaches. I welcomed prospective students by processing paperwork; interviewing applicants; arranging and conducting campus tours; conducting follow-up activities such as video conferences and phone-calling campaigns. During my time at Eastern University, I excelled at motivating others, practicing persuasion and listening skills, supported diversity, and enjoyed connecting with others. Show less

    • Long Term Substitute Teacher
      • Oct 2019 - Dec 2019

During my time as a long-term substitute teacher at Oakcrest High School I was given the opportunity to teach Honors American Literature. Although I was given lesson plans and a timeline for assignments, I was also allowed the freedom to assign my own personal lesson plans and assignments to the students. I made it a priority to grade test and quizzes in a timely matter, as well as post them onto the Genesis platform. I kept a log for when assignments were assigned and due (posted copies on Google Classroom) so that each student was aware. During each class we would read aloud together and have classroom discussions based off topics that were relevant to the current unit curriculum. I know that good rapport with students improves classroom behavior, increases attendance and grades, as well as encourages school involvement. I made it a priority to build rapport with each one of my students for the time I was at the school. I made sure to keep the head teacher aware and informed on the progress of each student in each class and made it my obligation to keep things in order during her absence. During the months I was teaching, I was in contact with the school counselors, staff, parents, and the English supervisor to assist my students as best as possible. Show less

As a k-8 substitute teacher, I maintained a well-managed classroom and positive learning environment, making sure to follow the teacher’s lesson plans in a way that ensured consistency and optimal learning. I encouraged students to participate and be actively involved in the classroom discussion. I gained experience with special needs and at-risk students, having worked with both demographics and being trained on best practices for engaging these students. I always strive to communicate well with staff, students and families! Show less

Fulfilled the responsibilities of a full-time high school counselor by attending to the needs of the students, parents, and staff. Worked as a liaison to establish and develop a referral and support system between students and counselors. I am familiar with principles set by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), New Jersey School Counselor Association (NJSCA), and the NJ Department of Education to ensure relevance and effective counseling strategies.
