Whilst at A&O, I worked primarily with the Corporate Lending and Real Estate Finance Team on a large and complex multijurisdictional transaction, requiring a structured outlook and strong financial acumen. My role involved tracking documents as they were sent to and received from clients and foreign counsel, requiring organisation and the ability to effectively manage my time and prioritise tasks. Working closely with lawyers of all levels has enabled me to acquire invaluable knowledge of the legal processes and work streams that take place during a transaction. This role has enabled me to gain vital insight into the skills necessary to develop a successful legal career such as the ability to adopt a flexible and effective problem-solving process and the importance of being dynamic, efficient and reliable. Whilst at Lionheart School I taught GCSE level Maths and Science. The majority of my students experienced learning difficulties and it was therefore important to adapt my style of teaching in order to suit each student. As well as teaching, my chief responsibilities included planning lessons, producing schemes of work and setting and marking homework. It was also necessary for me to write termly reports commenting on each students’ progress and general ability. As a member of the school community it was important to be involved in discussions with students out of lessons time. I would frequently take students out to the local park during break and supervise them at meal times. Show less

My week of work experience at Eversheds enabled me to gain a unique insight into the daily tasks of a commercial lawyer at an international law firm. During this week I worked within the Real Estate Litigation Team, attending a mediation and court hearing as well as conducting research. During my internship at Compania De Minas Buenaventura my primary responsibilities included the construction of geological maps and cross sections of areas under exploration, requiring precision and focus. Additionally, I researched projects that were in the early stages of development for potential joint ventures. This required knowledge of the cost of processes of excavation, removal and processing and the ability to accurately predict the potential profitability of a mine. During my internship, I also spent a week at an open pit mine that primarily produces gold and silver. This enabled me to gain knowledge of the stages and costs of the mining process. During this week my main responsibilities included the construction of lithological logs produced from borehole samples. This is a fundamental stage in the valuation of a mine, as it enables the deduction of the potential ore grade and hence profitability. Show less
