    • Writer for The Tab York
      • Jun 2014 - Jul 2015

This involved writing articles for the news, features and opinion sections of The Tab York, an online student publication. I conducted research to find ideas for articles which I pitched to my editor before writing them, contacting members of the student and staff body for quotes, and sourcing pictures to go alongside. I had to work to short deadlines and learn how to use the online Wordpress page to publish the articles myself.

I wrote an article exploring child slavery in Guinea-Bissau, Africa to be judged by representatives from the Guardian and Amnesty International. I was placed as runner up out of 3000 other articles for my age bracket and was therefore invited down to an awards ceremony in London. This included a journalism masterclass run by the Guardian where we were given the opportunity to conduct interviews before an audience and film each other reading news broadcasts. This was my first experience of broadcast journalism which I greatly enjoyed.
