A professor of Sociology of Crime, Law and Human Rights at the University of Leuven since 1997, I have specialised in two main areas: (a) transitional justice and human rights in post-conflict situations (Bosnia/Serbia, Rwanda/South Africa, and Argentina/Guatemala), with a particular focus on truth commissions and victim reparations, and (b) human rights in the context of asylum and migration in Belgium and Europe. I coordinate the interdisciplinary and internationally composed Research Line on Human Rights and Transitional Justice at the Faculty of Law, University of Leuven, since 2007. Our work always combines a theoretical and empirical component, from a critical and bottom-up perspective.See: https://www.law.kuleuven.be/linc/english/index.html
