As a consequence of the foundation of Microsoft station Q, the Microsoft Quantum Material Lab (MQML) was established in Lyngby, Denmark September 2019. The lab is focused on material development and production for fault tolerant quantum bits. As a PhD fellow, I had the privilege to work with the state-of-the-art UHV cluster and was associated both with the Center for Quantum Devices as well as the MQML.The main objective was the production of a system of epitaxial layers of III-V semiconductors by molecular beam epitaxy that supports a two-dimensional electron gas and proximitizing this system with a superconductor to achieve the high spin-orbit coupling and mobilities needed for a topological protected state to form in such systems. These topological states will be the building block for topological qubits with high tolerance to outside interferences in a future quantum computer.I worked with mainly scanning probe microscopy (STM, STS, AFM, and combinations thereof) to determine the quality and electronic properties of the mentioned grown systems. I established several advanced SPM methods such as e.g. Ballistic Electron Emission Microscopy (BEEM), and was managing the development and setup of an UHV preparation chamber for in-situ cleaving samples for cross-sectional STM. I had the great honor to learn the operation and maintenance of 10mK dilution refrigerators as a member of the Selective Area Growth (SAG) team at the Center for quantum devices. I also helped with the electrical characterization of SAG devices.

Schulminator.com is a german homepage offering learning content for high school students for free. My job was to revise, extend and produce new, creative content in the form of mathematics wikis and exciting exercises. Therefore, I used HTML and LaTeX to program an HTML site, which then was added to the homepage by the system administrator. In the order of the work I successfully completed the HTML online course of W3schools.com and deepened my previous knowledge of LaTeX. Furthermore, I came up and draw graphics using the online graphic-tool Desmos.com and Adobe Photoshop. Show less

I worked at Fraunhofer USA's Center for Coatings and Diamond Technology (CCD), which is one of the leading places in diamond research in the US and worldwide. My job was within the development of novel and proprietary coating solutions for customer applications and the development of applications and products for CVD diamond materials as well as testing of coatings for customer applications. Tasks: - Applying different hard coatings to custom objects via magnetron sputtering PVD - Investigating the influence of beam collimation through different sized honeycomb grids - Presenting the results of investigations in meetings - UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy of diamond thin films - Four-point-probe electrical characterization of diamond thin films Results: - Contributed to the beam design of a PVD chamber for custom deposition of diamond-like carbon with honeycomb collimation - Acquired and documented optical and electrical properties of samples, helping to adjust the deposition parameters on the run, resulting in improved coating results Show less

    • Student Internship and Bachelor Project
      • Sep 2015 - Nov 2015

I spend the mandatory internship of the last semester of my bachelor's at Fraunhofer CCD. The project I ran taught me a lot about -boron-doped diamond thin-film growth with plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition and -ultra-thin metal film (and ITO) growth with magnetron sputtering physical vapor deposition. Furthermore, I learned to grasp completely new topics fast and how to effectively communicate in a team. Lastly, my English skills in speech and text were improved.

I worked for Daimler as a full-time shift worker at the assembly line of the high-end engines (V6 and V8 twin turbos) at different stations. It played into my hands-on mentality and taught me to stay calm in stressful situations as well as working effectively under time-pressure. As a salesperson for ARBEG I was responsible for selling goat products, advising customers and managing the stall. Through my attentive and friendly behavior, I was able to quickly build a regular clientele and thus guarantee the farm a reliable source of income. In addition, I helped to settle smaller disputes among the salesmen and improved the marketing strategy with creative contributions.
