As Literacy Content Specialist, I coordinated the development and implementation of a balanced literacy curriculum and related assessments for the Swanton School system. This K-8 system served approximately 600 students at the time of my employment. I worked in partnership with the building principal to design a strategic plan and I supported the team of literacy interventionists by designing a strong literacy program. I coordinated professional development opportunities for the teachers and evaluated the effectiveness of the professional development. I managed the implementation of the statewide assessment (New England Comprehensive Assessment Program/NECAP). This involved training the teachers to administer the assessment, creating a schedule for student testing, and ensuring that all the paperwork was accurately submitted. I analyzed the results of the NECAP assessment and worked with grade level teams of teachers and the administration to target areas of the instructional program that needed improvement. I met daily with grade level teams of teachers to analyze data from school-based assessments. I facilitated the use of a variety of data protocols, summarized the data analysis and communicated the results to the building principals. I managed the selection and development of literacy related resources and programs. This involved researching tools, programs and approaches and making recommendations to the building principals and teachers. I modeled use of high yielding instructional strategies through coaching and co-teaching. I presented the results of student assessments and data analysis regularly to the school board. I provided frequent progress updates to the school board on the long-range goals of the school. Show less

As a classroom teacher for grades K and grades 1-2, I developed lessons to teach students key skills and concepts in reading, writing, math, social studies, and science. I tracked their progress through the development and use of classroom assessments. I communicated the results to parents and worked in partnership with intervention providers to adjust instruction based on individual student needs.
