The Obama Foundation Scholars Program seeks to support dynamic, collaborative, rising leaders from around the world in an innovative one-year academic experience. The Obama Foundation Scholars Program will give rising young leaders around the world who are already making a difference in their communities the opportunity to take their work to the next level through a newly designed curriculum that brings together academic, skills-based, and hands-on learning. The Scholars Program empowers individuals with a proven commitment to service with the tools they need to make their efforts more effective, to identify innovative solutions to complex global problems, and promote change through values-based leadership. The program will build lasting relationships among emerging leaders who are committed to working together to solve the most pressing challenges of our time, creating a global network that reaches across issues and borders. After completing the program, Obama Foundation Scholars will return to their communities and continue the important work they started in the program by implementing their own personalized action plan. They will also have an opportunity to play a role in the Obama Foundation’s efforts to inspire, train, and connect rising leaders from around the globe. Obama Foundation Scholars at the University of Chicago will earn a Master of Arts degree focused on International Development and Policy at the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy. In addition to classroom studies, the Obama Foundation will offer a robust program of leadership development and service activities throughout the academic year to help Scholars gain the real-world skills, tools, and experiences to expand the impact of their work when they return home. These may include leadership development convenings; program experiences in New York and Washington, DC; speaker series with innovators across a variety of sectors; individual and group service projects etc.

Stanley Ndambakuwa is currently serving as the first Chairman of the African Community Fund for Education Canada. ACFE Canada is subsidiary Non-Profit of the African Community Fund for Education Group - an international Non-Profit that focuses on empowering the African Community through education and leadership development.Since the foundation of the ACFEG, Stanley has spearheaded the launch of historic campaigns which include the 'Educate the Girl Child Campaign' which focuses on creating awareness for the inclusive and sustainable education of girls, and the 'Dollar Campaign for Education' which is a global fundraising toward creating a funds for education of disadvantaged children in Africa. Stanley also masterminded ACFE Group's core programs which include the landmark 'African Community Education Program' and the 'African Leadership Program.' Stanley also created and pursued ACFE Group's internationalisation strategy as well as the setting up of the first programs office in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Our annual half-day summit is focused on promoting the importance of investing in girls' education, a discussion on early learning innovations, expanding youth educational experiences, the importance of mentorship and the economic impact of investing in girls' education. The UNISA/Open University IDEAS Project (International Distance Education and African Students) is a R10 million project funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council, the National Research Foundation and the Newton Fund. The project focuses on determining equitable access to, and improving the quality of, international distance education (IDE) in South Africa.The project aims to (1) To examine how far international distance education (IDE) in South Africa offers equitable access to students in Africa through both supply side and demand side analysis, (2) To access and improve quality of IDE and see how it varies among students though the development of a learning analytics tool that can be utilized for IDE in South Africa. (3) To advance theoretical understandings of IDE through a post colonial framework which recognizes South Africa as a vital site for global education and conceptualises south-north learning in learning analytics in the context of the different power relations, ontologies and forms of knowledge production.(4) To produce impactful findings that contribute towards Sustainable Development Goal 4 regarding equal access to quality education.For more information visit: http://ideaspartnership.org/

How can cities simultaneously provide equitable access to resources, minimize environmental degradation, and stimulate economic opportunity? This course will use the City of Chicago as a laboratory for evaluating the social, environmental, and economic costs and benefits of alternative forms of human settlement. Students will be introduced to a scenario planning tool called Urban Footprint and use it to evaluate urban development alternatives in Chicago. They will evaluate the potential of community areas to understand how changes in the urban environment can simultaneously realize the economic potential, protect environmental health, and provide social benefit.
