I support the PALS program at all levels K-12, from program development to program sustainability, training, and advocacy. In three years, I have taken PALS from 14 middle- and high school campuses to 61 campuses that serve K-12. Austin ISD now has 1,500 highly trained peer mentors who work with 3,000 mentees across the District. Working in partnership with colleagues in Social Emotional Learning, Equity, Counseling, and Trust-Based Relational Intervention, PALS has a curriculum that reflects contemporary brain science and the Neuro-sequential Model as it applies to education, plus best practices in school counseling, and that invites students to examine their worldview and consider how that might manifest in their mentoring practice.
