Particularly on GAU, I developed leadership and management skills as my role on The GilwernAssessment Unit often required me to work as the Nurse in Charge. I was able to manage my time and the time of the staff on the ward effectively. I was expected to manage staffing, bed management via liaisons with site managers, identifying patients via the DNN system, admitting direct admissions, transferring and discharging via the online PAS system. I participated in ward rounds with Geriatrician and liaise with the multidisciplinary team. An essential role as a Staff Nurse on Gilwern meant we offered the highest quality care by working in partnership with patients and carers to coordinate a safe discharge with the appropriate care package. I worked closely with Integrated Urgent Care, Community care service providers such as Virtual ward and Rapid response. I have experience with Continuing Health Care Assessments, Deprivation of Liberty, Mental Capacity and Adult Safeguarding Show less

Staff Nurse

Sep 2014 - Dec 2015
I worked as part of a multidisciplinary team in a busy ward which has 35 beds for inpatient care, acute assessment and high dependency. The ward delivered care across the range of surgical, medical, mental health and orthopaedic specialities. The ward admits new patients directly or via A&E. The patient group was varied in age and conditions. This fast paced environment demanded strong decision making, time management and assessment skills. The ward also had a Frail Elderly Assessment unit for patients with acute illness and long term conditions such as Dementia andAlzheimer's. As a staff nurse on AAU I am expected to assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual patient care and treat or escalate where appropriate. I administer medication including IV therapies, perform a variety of clinical procedures that include blood transfusion, venepuncture and cannulisation. I gained Acute Illness Management Training and my skills developed quickly, particularly in early detection and prevention. This environment had exposed me to vast and exciting patient groups each with their own challenges. I adapted well to Show less
