I was promoted from Optical Assistant to Team Leader from Cheltenham Store to Cribbs Causeway. Cribbs Causeway is a Top 20 store within Vision Express and I am currently working within a management role at the store. My role includes helping the smooth running of the company by assisting the manager in organising of the staff and tasks ahead. I am a keyholder within the store, meaning I open and close the store on a daily basis. There are sales and targets set and as part of the management team it is important we analyse this information and find the best ways for the team to achieve these. I actively take part in making the spreadsheets for data analysis as well as setting achievable goals for the staff. I help to train and support the staff in store, making sure that there is room for development for each individual. I started this process by taking on some of the PDR reviews in store. The size of the team at present is about 25 staff not including Optometrists. As my role is customer facing I often have to deal with customer complaints which I find I am able to do with ease and leave the customers feeling content.I have recently finished studying on the ABDO Dispensing Optician Course which I thoroughly enjoyed. I am now GOC registered as a qualified dispensing optician. The course was great as it has enabled me to learn a lot more about how the world of optics works and also allows me to help resolve problems for patients within the store.

First point of contact with customers upon them entering the store, this means I have to look and act professional at all times. A customer interaction based role where communication is key, dealing with a variety of people and making sure they are provided with top quality service. Occasionally I have to deal with difficult customers but I manage to defuse the situation by listening and empathising with the customer. I am trained up to Gold level within the company meaning I have extensive knowledge within optics and a solid foundation for management. I also have managerial responsibilities this includes; opening & closing the store, cashing up and organising the staff, this shows that I am trust worthy and have good leadership skills. Whilst with the company I have helped run charity events rising over £300 for CHECT. I have also received emails from customers via head office, complimenting my customer service and help throughout their journey with the store.

Started with no experience in optics and within 3 years of working part time, I managed the contact lens department and became one of the head dispensers in store. This job taught me the importance of customer service, I got 100% in the Mystery Shop results for the store showing I am a hard worker and do go above and beyond for every customer. Working within this role helped give me confidence and build my people skills, meaning I feel at ease talking to large groups of people. I left this job as I relocated to Cheltenham to study at university.
