I've gained some engineering related experience by working on three different groups within the Collaboratory program with the most recent being the Cycle Advancements for Rugged Terrain (CART), then Solar Photovoltaic Panama, and finally the Electrical Enclosure group. -The CART project was created to create a way to increase the safety of the users in developing countries when they use their small motorcycles to transport various cargo. This objective was accomplished by a designing a fully operational prototype of a universal motorcycle hitch that will allow most small motorcycles to pull a trailer safely. To ensure that this design will hold up in the rough conditions, we performed static and dynamic tests and we used that data to determine the fatigue life in very rough conditions. Then we used SolidWorks to determine if there are any high stress areas that need to be reinforced or redesigned. In this group, I have helped design, conduct, and analyze the static and dynamic tests on the universal motorcycle hitch along with using SolidWorks to analyze the design. I was on this project during my senior year of college - The Solar Photovoltaic Panama project was created to design solar power system large enough to power the local church and school in a remote town in Bajo Grande, Panama. My group came up with a 1.3 kW solar power system that met all the design requirements while being able to obtain all the components locally. In this project, I researched which locally available inverters and batteries would meet the design requirements. I also designed a ground mounting system that can hold up 9 solar panels out of galvanized pipe on SolidWorks. I was on this project during my junior year of college. - In the Electrical Enclosure group, my group redesigned a faulty 3D printed electrical enclosure. Show less
