Role To support sales staff with specification and configuration of customer requirements. This required knowledge of e-commerce practices and how to support those practices. Specifically: build and configuration of web servers (NT4 IIS4, NT2000 IIS5), SQL 7 database servers, bandwidth requirements, hardware requirements, and commercial practicalities. Plus some HP-UX specifications as well. Also I liaised with the XTML’s various Telco partners for lease lines and highly resilient connections. This was a sole support role in London. Projects I have handled a number of projects with the minimum of supervision, implementing upgrades and green field site projects. Example of a recent successful project is a project involving 6 web facing servers using a Cisco LocalDirector 430 load balancer and SQL7 back-end database server. This solution was used for selling concert tickets promoted by a very popular radio station. The site took 4 ½ million hits in a 7-hour period and had 85,000 connections at a time. This project was judged to be a success as all the concert tickets were sold within 7 hours. My final project was with HP and One2One. This was a web-hosting project developed for the mobile Internet community (i.e. WAP phone users). This project required extensive networking, security and hosting knowledge. The Networking side had 6 x Cisco Cat 6505 in a variety of configurations with maximum redundancy available. This required an extensive Telco understanding to be implemented. Whilst at XTML I streamlined the Telco bid process for lease lines with an emphasis on competitive bidding.
