Speaking on a panel at The Brilliant Club's annual conference at King's College London. My presentation related to the widening partipation work that the university does in association with teachers in London schools to remove barriers to higher education for those statistically least likely to apply. King's Advocate Award
-
Sep 2018 - Jul 2019
I completed the King’s Advocate Award, a one-year programme that seeks to provide training and resources to a new network of teachers and social workers to support under-represented learners in their context. This programme is led by the Widening Participation team at King’s and has been a great network to support my development and evolving philosophy and vision as a teacher. I have made valuable connections with teachers across London that face similar challenges, that may pose as potential obstacles to progress, attainment and progression to higher education for their students. With the support of funding from King's College London, I have been able to initiate a subject specific geography intervention for GCSE students, linked to the new specification. This intervention has been structured as three individual trips across London, allowing students to 'Learn through London' their urban case study. This opportunity not only provides students with examples of geography outside of the classroom, but has exposed them to strands of geography less explored in school geography, such as: cultural, economic and political geographies.
