Søren started at the Digital Health & Care Institute (DHI) as a student intern in September 2017 before progressing to part-time staff in February 2018 and finally transitioning to a full-time employee in January 2019. During his time at DHI, Søren should be commended for his time management and organisational skills as he split his time 50:50 between 2 very different roles within the organisation (Research and Marketing). From a purely marketing, communications and design aspect Søren has been professional in his approach and provided much needed support to several new marketing colleagues within the DHI. We would not be in the positive position we are moving into Phase 2.0 without his ongoing efforts to bring several key tasks in-house. Søren is proactive and has self-taught himself essential skills to add value to the DHI including graphic design, photography, video production and editing and web design using Umbraco CMS. Søren manages the day to day running of our digital communications (website, social media and email newsletter). He designs all our print communications (corporate branding, reports, marketing materials, banner displays, etc..) and often captures the photography and/ or videography to compliment them. He is experienced in setting up and managing the running of our exhibition stand at public engagement events. He has earned the trust of colleagues and integrates well into team projects and can be left to work on his own without the need for micro management. He brings innovative and creative ideas when developing the best solution to everyday challenges. Although Søren does not have direct line management responsibility within the DHI organisational structure. He has shown excellent leadership skills by being proactive and taking the lead with certain tasks and projects. He positively engages with colleagues and external resource to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget. Søren has been an excellent addition for the DHI. His positive and can-do attitude will be sorely missed. I cannot recommend him highly enough as an individual and colleague who will add value to any organisation that he joins.

I have worked with Søren Lange Nielsen for two years at the Digital Health and Care Institute (DHI), which is one of eight Scottish Innovation Centres. I have known Søren in the capacity of his supervisor and as his line manager. Søren first arrived at the DHI in 2017 as an intern having sought the position proactively with us himself. He subsequently stayed on to carry out a piece of commissioned research on behalf of us for the mPower project. The resulting report on International Practice of Digital Apps has since been referenced by NICE as one of the key documents influencing their Evidence standards framework for digital health technologies. Søren then became employed part-time in my team, while finishing his Master’s dissertation in Denmark. He then moved to work at our Marketing and Communications team, better matching his degree, before being deployed part-time back at the Research and Knowledge Management team (RKM). Søren’s work for the RKM- team has been commendable. He has a real flair and interest for doing research and he is a quick learner, which is an essential quality in the type of fast-moving and diverse research setting as ours is. Søren has an excellent attitude to work, he is very helpful, able to remain calm in stressful situations and readily takes on-board suggestions to improve his performance. He has a great attention to detail, and he regularly exceeds expectations in delivering of what is asked of him. While Søren has had no direct leadership responsibilities, he has shown excellent leadership skills by being proactive in his responsibilities and taking the lead with certain tasks and projects. He positively engages with colleagues and external resources to ensure that projects are delivered on time and to impeccable quality. He has also been instrumental in supporting the development of the DHI website and communication strategy. Søren is well-liked by her colleagues and our clients alike, and we are very sorry to see him leave. Søren will make an excellent employee and a colleague to any team.
