My role in this position involved greeting and checking in guests, confirming reservations, working to resolve any complaints, answering telephone calls, email management, and ensuring all banking balanced on my shift. Working in a hostel with a capacity of 300 people in the high summer season has enabled me to develop my skills of working under high pressure. Completed a research expedition to Punta Frances National Park, Cuba with the aim of assessing the effect of hurricane damage on both the coral reef and Cuban tropical dry forest. One week was dedicated to marine surveying, with scientific dives including surveying techniques such as underwater drawing, underwater photography, roving and stationary fish surveys, T-bar surveys and quadrat surveys. The second week was then dedicated to terrestrial surveying. Fauna surveying included catching and recording birds, butterflies, lizards and bats. Flora surveying included creating an elevation profile, plan and distribution data, fallen tree data and canopy gap analysis to aid in the completion of a long-running data collection project to publish a paper on the Cuban tropical dry forest.

While working here I progressed from a sales assistant to a supervisor position. At this point, I was given the responsibility of running a team of up to 15 staff members, and the opportunity of training new members of staff. I was expected to ensure all team members were working to their full capability and to delegate tasks where necessary. This greatly improved my organisational skills along with my team building and leadership skills. While working here I progressed from a sales assistant to a supervisor position.
