As an Audit Associate, I have worked with a variety of teams to complete audits for various size clients operating in different industries. In my current role, I examine financial records and other data looking for potential fraud or misconduct, I get to visit client sites and have discussions with all levels of management. As part of these audits, I plan and carry out testing during fieldwork, this can include stocktakes, I regularly set up the audit file on Voyager, ensuring all mandatory documents and information was available, ready for managers and partners to review and conclude the audit. I contribute to the final audit report; with my workpapers, I aim to provide clarity and in-depth detail about the testing I have carried out, creating a picture for the reviewer as to how I arrived at my conclusion and investigated any errors to ensure a true and fair view. I attend planning meetings and engagement teams discussions to understand the entities that I am auditing and engage in group discussion as to where there is likely to be fraud risks and material misstatements. I also had the opportunity to go on a secondment in the Ethics department for 1 month, through this experience I was able to gain an understanding of the ethical threats affecting the firm and our audits, as well as see the importance of ethics and safeguarding within the firm. I got to assist the ethics team with a range of tasks, such as ensuring our clients are complying with ethics regulations and audit team members are rotating off audits to avoid familiarity, independence and other threats.
