Student Ambassador
-
Jun 2012 - May 2015
I have undertaken a variety of roles during my time as a Student Ambassador. I started by volunteering my time to work on the University Open Days. A requirement of this role was being able to speak to potential students and their parents about my experiences during my time at the university and about my course. I found that I had to think on my feet as it was unknown what questions I would be asked and as a result it has helped to build my confidence. As a valued member of the Student Ambassador scheme, I was offered further opportunities to gain experience and develop my skills through assisting the Outreach team. The role involved visiting schools and colleges in the South Yorkshire area to talk to and carry out activities with students, who may not have considered university to be an option for them, to help them to understand that they have potential to continue into Higher Education. I have also taken charge of Student-led Campus Tours of the university. This has helped to develop my communication and leadership skills, through interacting with people looking at university from differing perspectives. Show less

Trainee Accounts Clerk
-
Jul 2013 - Aug 2014
The third year of my degree involved me taking a year out of studying in order to carry out a work placement. My experience of the working environment came as a Trainee Accounts Clerk at Warrens GBC Limited. Throughout the 14 months I worked at Warrens, I experienced all areas of the business, although some areas were more limited. My role was predominantly in the audit department where I was required to prepare draft financial accounts, from the information provided by our clients. The job gave me the opportunity to experience the role of a receptionist, as I frequently took my turn to cover reception on a lunchtime. This gave me experience of dealing with clients first hand in the form of answering the phone and face to face. I also had a limited experience in the tax and wages department. Show less
